I secretly have curly hair. Yes really, I do. I pretty much only wear it straight because I have a hard time with my curls not being frizzy or looking defined, it is usually a hot mess when I wear my natural hair. Over the years, I have straightened my hair chemically, with heat and wrapped my hair over night, just to avoid my curls shining through. My hair has broken and considerably thinned out from all the torture I have put it through over the years.
Upon opening the container, vanilla/citrus-like fragrance floated through the air and captured my senses, quickly taking me to the container to try to figure out what the smell was, but the ingredients list did not mention what the “Fragrance” is, so I am just going to guess it has Vanilla and maybe citrus of some kind? The Curl Creme appeared to have a “whipped gel” look, almost like the consistency of “Non-Fat Mayo”, not like a thick, pasty cream. When I dipped my fingers into the container, the creme felt like a gel. I rubbed my fingers together and it became a bit watery, but still held the creamy form.
The first time I used the product, I washed my hair and while it was still very wet, I applied a generous dollop (maybe the size of a Silver Dollar) of Curl Creme into my hands and emulsified them, later proceeding to apply the creme into my hair from “Top to bottom, inside & out”, as directed on the container, until my hair was completely covered. I let it mostly air dry, adding a little light indirect heat on the low setting of the T3 Featherweight 2 hair dryer. My curls were defined, but I DEFINITELY used too much product in my hair. It looked oily. I took another shower and repeated the process, the next time using half the amount of product that I did originally. I followed all the same steps and my results were much better, I did however need to used a little extra product the next day to tame some flyaways and define the curls a little more.
I also used the Curl Creme on my children. Both my girls have loose ringlet curls and brush them out daily, it was really great to see them with beautiful defined curls that kept for more than one day. The product actually has a little light hold, at least for “our” hair it did.
In between washings, I have used the creme for taming flyaways, defining my curls a little more, as a leave-in conditioner over night as I found that my hair is INCREADIBLY soft after I wash it when I use the creme. To me, the creme also works great on dry hair. You need a fraction of the product but it delivers results, giving curl definition and shine. You just need to be careful about getting this product in your bangs/fringe if you have one, your bangs WILL get oily looking very quickly, so for my hair type (Crazy Latina-Hebrew Hair), I would avoid application of the product on the crown.
PRO: Leaves hair SUPER soft, has very light control, NO Phytates, Sulfates, Silicone, Parabens, Animal Ingredients, Animal Testing or Mineral Oil. (All the “No’s” I like.)
CON: A little too much fragrance (for me). – The smell does not dissipate, it kinda lingers all day. Not a bad smell, just a little sweet for me.
With all hopes and continued use of the Curl Creme, I will be able to restore the texture and appearance of my hair and not have the chore of wearing my hair straight everyday.
