Twelve Days of Blogmas – Day 2: Random Acts of Kindness

random acts of kindness #2

I am a firm believer in a Spanish saying “Hoy por ti, mañana por mi”  – this means today for you, tomorrow for me. I do this constantly with the hopes that the lending hand will be bestowed on me one day should I ever be in such great need like a person living on the streets.

I was out shopping for some last-minute items for Thanksgiving and I was also picking up dinner for our family, when I saw a gentleman with a little girl and a woman. The man was walking near cars and approaching people as they put their purchases into their trunks, I noticed most individuals brushing him off, until he came close enough to my car, I overheard him ask a lady walking with a shopping cart towards the market for money to feed his daughter some dinner and she angrily shooed him away and told him he was disgusting… The man was devastated and began to walk away.

My heart sank when I witnessed this cruel behavior towards this poor man. I approached the gentlemen and told him I would buy food for his family. The man told me that he did not need to eat, he and his wife can manage as long as his daughter ate, that is all that mattered. I noticed there was a McDonald’s in the plaza, so I told him I would walk with him to the restaurant and buy all of them food. I made sure I gave him enough money so that he would have money left to buy something in the morning.

*Remember – Everyone is worth something and everyone matters. Just because someone is homeless or doesn’t make a lot of money, doesn’t mean they do not deserve respect. You never know what unfortunate events can happen to bring you to the very same situation in life. Always treat others as you would like to be treated and give every once in a while, I promise life will give you something back…
