Once upon a time there was a breed of women that woke up each day and lived life for slaving in the kitchen to only to make a satisfying meal at the end of the day for their family. Then one day, this amazing thing called technology surfaced into our lives and it all went to shit. Having time or the skill to cook in this day and age, rarely happens in this tech land we call Silicon Valley.
I on the other hand, am a lucky to embrace the kitchen as I come from a family of restauranteurs’ and my father was a Chef. I do not fear the stove! But I do however, have my down days that I feel very lazy about cooking and hate feeding my family fast food or even local take out. Dream Dinners has gone ahead and relieved the pain of yet another take out meal or frozen dinner from Costco to be fed to you or your family filled with who the hell knows what preservative is in it, that makes you wake up puffy the next day.
I recently went and checked out Dream Dinner’s with a bunch of my blogger peers, as we all have crazy busy schedules and I personally loved the experience! I pre-selected 4 meals prior to arriving (Parmesan Boneless Pork Chops with Potato Wedges; Simmered Chinese Chicken with Jasmine Rice; Southwest Pork Carnita Wraps; and Meatloaf Milano with Mashed Potatoes) BUT they normally offer 17 different meals including side dishes and dessert each month to pick and choose from! You can see some of the sides & desserts in-store when you arrive.
Upon arrival, after our little meet & greet and the low down on how Dream Dinners works, we got down and dirty (kinda…) and dug into the fun part, food prep! Basically everything is set out for you in the Dream Dinners industrial kitchen with instruction cards and packaging supplies at the corresponding stations. When you complete each meal prep, you place it in the fridge and jump onto making another!
This is a great place to go and prepare meals with a girlfriend or two or even your other half! I had a blast in the process!
Once I was done with my preparation, I took my goods home and was up for the real challenge… the big food critics, my husband and kids. One of which, (jokingly) only consumes cheese pizza, clean air and Quinoa Pasta).
- SADLY, I DIDN’T GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO PHOTOGRAPH THIS MEAL. On the first night, I made the Carnitas Wraps and my oldest daughter wanted NOTHING to do with them. My husband tried them and was expecting something totally different, BUT always eating with an open mind. I personally felt that the carnitas wraps were too much like BBQ pulled pork. I really enjoyed the two side dishes (White Rice and Sweet & Savory Corn.)
- The second meal with have eaten was the Meatloaf Milano with Mashed Potatoes. My husband was on the fence about the cheese on the meatloaf and felt like it was a bit dry. My oldest daughter tried the meatloaf and at the mashed potatoes, but was not of fan with the cheese. I on the other hand, really liked the cheese on the meatloaf, but I have to agree that it is a bit dry. It needs something else added into it to make it a little more moist OR cook it in the oven with a bowl of water to steam that sucker! I felt like the potatoes were tasty. My family fan definitely use a second bag as my husband is a big potato eater.
I still have to prepare my last two meals as I have been out of my house a lot and unable to defrost and cook the last two dinners I have from Dream Dinners. I may just save them for when I have surgery the second week of April so life is a little easier for my husband.
Overall, I think this is a great idea and good place to go if you are challenged with ideas on meals to cook, time to cook or eat out a lot. I think that if you are a picky eater, you will want really read your ingredient and omit items from recipes or ask one of the instructors to help you balance your sauce out so your meal is not very sweet and/or seasoned if need be. To me, Dream Dinners is best for a working professional. If you have a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children), you will need a 6 portion meal because the 3 will not feed everyone, as the portions are not generous.
